THE PLOT THICKENS.

FIRST LESSON LEARNED.

There is no such thing as a rot free mini. Ah well we kinda knew that but its nice to dream.

Just as well we decided the current rear subframe wasn't going to manage the massive increase in power we have planned for this puppy :-)

Sills as well.....TIME TO START CUTTING.

The intricate body shape of the classic Mini coupled with keeping the areas of rot accessible calls for some pretty radical jacking solutions.

Doors Off, Bonnet Off, Boot Lid Off....Time to start cutting.

I've always considered spot welding to be a pretty poor way to put something together. That is until I've tried to get something apart constructed in that way. Who-ever it was that said a Mini is just a "Bean Can" on wheels obviously never tried to get one apart. Every one of this spot welds having to be precision drilled. You could say Every Spot Weld Fought for and Won" This panel doesn't actually look that rotten, but we've applied the rule to renew both sides irrespective of the degree of rot so there will be no twisting of the body under load.

"Preparation is Everything". Got to get down to this spot welds before you can start drilling.

We use the "Rule of thumb"........ If its rotten, Cut it Out. If its sound salute the fact that is has stood the test of time and lasted 40 years in the British Climate. A testament indeed to British Engineering.
